Old Car Restoration
"Go-Green" by Recycling an Old Car!Recycling an old car by donating it to charity has many advantages to the community. The taxpayer gets a valuable tax deduction on their itemized federal return. The scrap value of the car provides the charity with some much needed money to help fund their programs. The community gets a gas guzzling, polluting car off the road. Here's some advice to consider before just blindly handing over the title to your car. If you are dealing with a car donation center, ask them how much of the actual sale price the charity will receive. The term "net sale price" or "net proceeds" means the actual sale price minus auction fees, selling fees, or other fees charged by the center. Always make a copy of your title. Know who you are giving your car to. You should either mail your title to the charity or hand it directly to the person towing your car after they give you a receipt. Never, just leave the title in the car! If you do, you may not get a receipt and therefore, will have no proof of your donation. If you live in a state where you are required to remove the license plates, make sure you do! You won't be able to cancel your car insurance until you have either transferred the plates to another car or returned them to the Department of Motor Vehicles. Make sure you keep all the correspondence between you and the charity. If you don't, when you go to do your taxes, you'll find yourself calling around to the various charities to find out which one you donated your car to.

auto restoration software?
What's the best software for old car restoration? I'm looking for something that is good for more than time, budget, and materials planning. Maybe something that will conceptualize what things like different grills, and rims would look like. Is there something like that?

Old Car Restoration Project?
I have this crazy idea... What if you were to buy an old car, (late 60's early 70's muscle car), and put a viper engine in it? I have seen quite a few older muscle cars, selling with no engines, and in need of some body/interior work, selling for under a grand. How hard would it be to swap a viper engine (1994 probably...), into the older car? You can find these engines, with transmissions, for about $4000-$7000, depending on mileage. Would this be possible? I have never restored a car, but I have family members who would be willing to help me...
Thanks much, I look forward to seeing some answers here!
***BTW- I'm not looking to completely restore this car, just put a new engine setup into it, and slap some new seats in it. The car I'd be getting has a decent interior, needs paint, and has no engine/transmission with it. I was just wondering if it would be easy enough to slap the Viper engine in it...
But thanks for the answers so far, I am by no means an expert on this subject, and I have no wife or neighbors to worry about!

1966 Mustang Restoration?
I bought a 1966 Mustang Convertible but I have no idea how to work on it. I want to restore it and make it look nice, but I also want to modernize the engine and other mechanical aspects. Any ideas of courses i could take (and where) or books that would specialize in this type of older car restoration?
